the fact that a major Chicago running event was cancelled in 2007 halfway
through the event amid rumors of running out of water.
Ice Water Supply
Ice can be a very valuable commodity on the road on a very hot day and running
out of ice can present a significant safety issue in the summer heat. All
participants will be relying on the availability of ice water
at the rest stops to cool themselves internally.
While
we will have plenty of ice water available and an
ample supply of ice, there will only be a limited amount
of ice and
if we run out we will need to go get more.
Ice can be very difficult to find at a location close to the rest stop and
can also be very expensive and having to get more ice takes up the time of
the rest stop attendant and inhibits his ability to provide other on road
support services.
Ice water must be conserved and used only for drinking purposes. If you
need to cool off do not pour ice water over your head or body. Instead,
we will have a hose with a spray nozzle set
up connected to a spigot at most
rest stops that you can use to spray yourself with that works
fantastic to cool off.
Due
to significant food safety concerns we cannot offer ice to any individual
participant
for
any reason, such as to put
in your individual
water bottle
or in
a plastic bag to use to cool off.
