THE CHAMPAIGN OF RIDES!

Routes

Route Description
The routes consist of four main loop routes beginning and ending at one central rest stop location in a "clover leaf" type fashion. Each loop is nominally 25 miles long and will proceed in a general north, south, east, or west direction out of the rest stop. In addition, a 12 mile "metric loop" will be available using part of the east loop. The same routes will be available to ride both Saturday and Sunday.

By combining these routes, participants will be able to ride as much or as little as they like. Riding the metric loop in addition to two of the main 25 mile loops will allow riders to ride a total of 62 miles or 100 kilometers (known as a metric century), and riding the metric loop twice in addition to all of the main loops will allow riders to ride a total of 124 miles or 200 kilometers (known as a double metric century).

These routes are perfect for riders who prefer flat riding and do not want hills. The terrain is entirely flat and the only hills are overpasses over highways and railroad tracks. In addition, since each loop begins and ends at the central rest stop location the net elevation gain and net grade for every possible ride is zero. Every foot you pedal up you'll be able to ride back down!

In the city our routes will primarily follow low travelled residential streets, many of which are designated bike routes with signed bike lanes. In the country our routes will primarily follow pristine, remote county back roads.

Central Rest Stop Location

Blair Park
1406 S. Broadway Ave.
Urbana, IL 61801

  • Click Here to download the in town cue sheet and map for the central rest stop location to the showers and bus stop.
  • Click Here for the in town routes between the central rest stop location and showers and bus stop overlaid on satellite imagery.

All routes will depart from and return to our central rest stop location. We will not have any other rest stop locations on any route other than the central rest stop location.

We felt it would be better to have our central rest stop location at a separate park rather than the supported hotel so we could have a more private area to set up at. There is a covered shelter and picnic tables at the central rest stop location and Blair Park is the closest location to the most suitable location for showers after the end of the ride on Sunday.
